London-based Wayve, a pioneer in embodied AI for the automotive sector, has launched a new testing and development hub in Germany.
The hub, located in Baden-Württemberg, will serve as a key site for refining Wayve’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and scalable automated driving technologies.
Alex Kendall, Co-Founder and CEO of Wayve, said: “2025 is a year of global expansion for Wayve, and we are incredibly excited to establish operations in Germany. With its rich automotive heritage and deep engineering expertise, Germany is a perfect place to accelerate the development and deployment of AI-powered driving technology.
“I look forward to partnering with Germany’s world-leading manufacturers and Tier 1 suppliers to bring safe, scalable, and production-ready AI software to vehicles worldwide.”
Supporting this initiative is a newly deployed fleet of Wayve test vehicles tailored for Germany’s varied and challenging driving conditions. From the high-speed demands of the Autobahns to the nuanced complexities of urban navigation and the icy roads of winter, Germany offers an ideal environment to validate Wayve’s driving software.
Dr Patrick Rapp, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labour and Tourism of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg, commented: “The state government very much welcomes the planned settlement of Wayve in Baden-Württemberg.
“Innovations in the areas of vehicle automation and digitalisation are a key driver of the current structural change in the automotive industry and a basic requirement for maintaining the technological competitiveness of the German automotive industry.”
Renowned for its automotive heritage and rich engineering expertise, Baden-Württemberg has become a magnet for companies at the forefront of future vehicular technologies. For Wayve, it represents a gateway to a robust talent pool crucial for the continued development of its proprietary AI systems.
“Baden-Württemberg laid the foundations early on to specifically promote the future technology of AI. We cover a diverse spectrum from basic research to application-oriented, business-related research,” added Dr Rapp.
“As a leading developer of embodied AI technology, Wayve thus meets a network of strong partners and users in Baden-Württemberg.”
The German expansion is the latest milestone in Wayve’s global roadmap. Following its recent $1.05 billion Series C funding round, the company has already demonstrated its AI capabilities in successful testing programs across the UK and US. Germany marks another significant market for Wayve as automakers increasingly pursue AI-powered mobility solutions.
Central to Wayve’s appeal is its vehicle-agnostic AI software. Instead of relying on high-definition maps and complex sensor infrastructures, Wayve’s technology learns from extensive and diverse driving data—enabling it to adapt to new, unseen environments autonomously. This adaptability opens the door for seamless integration across a wide range of vehicle models, offering automakers a scalable solution for deploying advanced ADAS and autonomous functionalities.
By embracing Wayve’s end-to-end AI models, manufacturers gain the tools needed to deliver safer and more efficient driving experiences without compromising scalability or cost-effectiveness. Such flexibility will be key as the automotive industry shifts towards AI-powered systems at an unprecedented pace.
By leveraging embodied AI, Wayve moves beyond traditional methods, offering a solution that adapts dynamically to the demands of real-world environments. This approach eliminates the need for the extensive manual programming that has characterised earlier autonomous driving advancements, providing a path toward more efficient and reliable systems.
With operations now spanning the UK, US, and Germany, Wayve is positioning itself as an integral player in the global automotive landscape. The company is doubling down on its ambition to transform mobility using AI and is forging crucial partnerships with manufacturers and suppliers to ensure its vision becomes a widespread reality.
