According to a post on the OnePlus forum, the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series will not benefit from the always-on display (AOD) feature in a stable version of the operating system. In March of this year, the OnePlus 7 and 7T series received Android 11, but the AOD functionality was lacking. Since then, users have been concern if the feature will be added to later phones, but now it seems like that won’t happen. The post shows an answer from OnePlus support staff saying that the AOD experience did not meet the standards of a stable version of the operating system.

In the OnePlus 7 series, OxygenOS 11 thread on the official forum, a user by the name of “gdsingh94” shared a screenshot of what appears to be a post from OnePlus customer support. The message states that the AOD feature will not reach a stable release for OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series. He explains that the research and development team put the AOD function in the open beta 3 firmware, but it did not meet the standards of a stable version, which is why it will not be added to the phones. Users will need to install Open Beta 4 firmware if they want to experience AOD on their OnePlus 7 / 7T series phones.

The OnePlus 7 / 7T series phones were updated to Android 11 in March in India and fans have since wondered if AOD will be added at a later date. This would be disappointing news for those who were eagerly awaiting for the feature, given that the OnePlus Nord received it with its Android 11 update.

OnePlus added AOD to OnePlus Nord in the type of Ambient Display, which brought the Insight clock and canvas options. While the Canvas option is always present in the OnePlus 7 / 7T series ambient display settings, it doesn’t always stay on and only appears when you tap the screen or pick up the phone.

Even though the forum post appears official, the company has not publicly stated that it will not be bringing AOD to the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series phones. For clarification, Gadgets 360 has reached out to OnePlus and will update this space when we have a response.
